The smartest GPS navigation system on the market

Dash is the first two way internet GPS navigation system, probably the smartest system of its kind on the market. Through its constant connectivity to the internet, it is smart enough to reprogram your route (based on your location and speed) if there are weather and traffic concerns.
Other useful features it provides is the ability to provide info of the nearest gas station with the best prices (based on your current GPS location) and the ability to send an address straight to the Dash GPS system in your car through a web browser or Microsoft Outlook.
Pricing and release dates are as of now unavailable, but it certainly is a killer product in the making.

RelatedBatteries dying? Try the USB rechargable battery
Why didn’t I think of this? A rechargeable battery that plugs directly into your USB port to recharge. This is a lifesaver for us absent-minded geeks who spend almost every waking hour in front of a computer and tend not to lug around a battery charger.
If your batteries are dying, simply pop up the cap and jam ‘em into that USB port that is so handily available. It needs about 250ma of juice from your USB and you’ll be up and running in a few hours. Manufactured by Moixa, the AA battery size runs for $19.95 a pair, not a bad price for such a useful thing. Other sizes available include 9V, AAA, C/D and most major phone/ blackberry batteries.

RelatedLinutop: A Linux based diskless computer system

It is a wonder why there aren’t more portable Linux based computers out there in the market. Is this about to change? Linutop does bring a Linux based diskless computer system to a very saturated market of relatively cheap laptop computers.
This lightweight system is small enough to (almost) fit in the palm of your hands. It runs on an AMD processor, weighs approximately 8 oz, has 256 MB of RAM and is packaged with most of the common utilities, software needed for the everyday light user and internet surfer (i.e. AbiWord Word Processor, Evince PDF reader, Firefox Web browser, Gaim instant messenger and Totem media player). It claims to target the everyday internet surfer but could be used in other ways too, e.g. PoS terminals and embedded vehicle PCs.
Product price and retail distribution outlets have not been detailed but we would expect it to come in at $500 or less. It remains to be seen how popular this system will be in the fickle (and less than forgiving) laptop market.

RelatedVisual Image Search Engine to be a reality

Swedish company Polar Rose has announced that it will launch an industry first visual search engine for web based image searches. With its successful $5.1 million Series A funding from Nordic Venture Partners last month, Polar Rose could make image searching a lot easier and more accurate through facial recognition and 3D imaging. Polar will launch a beta version of its software in February next year.
They are also currently working on a plugin for Firefox and IE users. It will show a small photo symbol when the browser is opened - and when clicked, will use the Polar Rose service to look for matching photos in its database and tag them Flickr style.
RelatedThe technology behind Polar Rose creates a virtual 3D image of a person, factoring out lighting and other conditions that can affect recognition. That 3D image is then used to try to guess when a person appears in a photo. The plugin, for example, will provide a link to try to find other images on the Internet of the person being tagged. At first, this data will be very thin. But if and when users adopt the Polar Rose plugin, the search feature could become a useful tool for finding additional pictures of people.
Nokia, Cingular, Citibank and Mastercard to trial the credit card phone
What if you could use your cell phone as your credit card? It’s convenient enough as everyone has a cell phone, and nowadays, no one leaves home without it. Well, Nokia, Cingular, Citibank and Mastercard have announced that they are going to do a trial of a credit card based cell phone system in New York City.
Skeptics have already said that it will be easier for thieves to get the phone out of your pocket (than to steal a credit card alone) and there have also been reports of security flaws in the system reminiscent of the Paypass Mastercard system currently available.
Signing up will be on a selective/limited basis but if you do get picked, you’ll get a trendy NFC (near field communications) phone to tap into your bank account when you start spending. To sign up, go to www.nyctrial.com by December 20th. You must be a Cingular subscriber and a Citibank account holder.
