Google Voice now allowing current users to change their number

Google Voice has just announced a new feature—the ability for current users to change their Google Voice number. Sure, this feature is currently limited to those lucky enough to actually have received an invitation, but at the same time I am sure there are plenty of original GrandCentral users who are feeling the need for an updated number. The process to change your number is quick and easy, although it does require you to pay a one time fee of $10.
Anyway, assuming the $10 fee does not scare you away, then log in to your Google Voice account and go to Settings -> Phones. Once there you will see your current Google Voice number listed towards the top, with the word “Change” on the right side. If you click on the word “Change” you will be given the opportunity to change your number to something that better suits you. Google even allows for a bit of personalization and preference when it comes to finding a new number. You can search by entering a specific ZIP code or area code as well as entering a partial number or phrase to look for a more personalized match.
Additionally, your old Google Voice number will remain active for three months. Now, if we could just get the whole number portability issue settled out and let users begin transferring current numbers into Google Voice, that and of course, get more people using Google Voice, which from what I understand is still an ongoing process.

RelatedSprint confirms July 12 release date for the BlackBerry Tour 9630
Sprint has recently taken to Twitter and confirmed the upcoming release date and the pricing for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 and it looks like they are staying head to head with Verizon on this release.
The Sprint-branded BlackBerry Tour will be available beginning on July 12 and retailing for $199. Availability will be either online or through telesales, however it looks like that $199 price tag will involve both an instant as well as a mail-in rebate. Otherwise, in order to get that pricing, you will also need to accept the standard two year agreement.
As of now, Sprint has not yet updated the website for the Tour, which is still reflecting the same “be the first to know” style page.

RelatedPalm Pre bits: GSM version in Vietnam, webOS updated to 1.0.4 and a landscape mode for email hack
Here we are with another selection of Palm Pre related news, and first things first, a GSM version has been spotted. Just recently a video has surfaced showing off a GSM version of the Palm Pre. Of course, we knew that such a model would eventually be released, however this one seems to have come from out of nowhere. What does this mean in terms of a release, unfortunately nothing. That said, it is nice to see that at least one is out there though. Here is hoping that we see a release of the GSM Pre sometime before the year is out, preferably in the form of an unlocked handset as opposed to being tied to a specific carrier.
Confirmed: BlackBerry Tour 9630 coming to Verizon July 12, retailing for $199

Just in case you had any doubt, Verizon has confirmed the upcoming availability of the BlackBerry Tour 9630. The handset is currently available for pre-order and will be available for purchase beginning on July 12. As for pricing, the Tour will be $199 which comes after a $70 instant online discount and along with the standard two year agreement.
Of course, if for some reason you want to get this in your hands as quickly as possible, then a trip to the store on the 12th may be in order. According to the pre-order page, any “pre-order shipments are estimated to begin on Monday July 13.”
Feature-wise, it will be difficult for many to complain as the handset seems to be a solid offering. The Tour 9630 has 3G support, a 2.4-inch 480 x 360 resolution display, a 3.2-megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus and video capture as well as Bluetooth and assisted GPS. Additionally, the handset also ships with a 2GB microSD card for some much needed extra storage.

RelatedRumored Sprint, Verizon launch dates for the BlackBerry Tour 9630

The last we heard about the upcoming release of the BlackBerry Tour 9630 we were still missing quite a few details, basically all we had was that the Tour was headed to Sprint and Verizon and that it was going to be priced at $199 with Sprint.
Thankfully, over the weekend a few more details leaked out. It now looks like the BlackBerry Tour is going to be available on July 12 and July 20 with Verizon Wireless and Sprint respectively. As far as that $199 price tag, it looks like that will be the same for both carriers. Of course, both carriers will also expect a two-year agreement in order to get that pricing.
That said, none of these details are coming courtesy of the respective carriers, in other words the release dates and pricing are still subject to change.

RelatedWindows 7 now available for pre-order from Amazon

Yesterday Microsoft announced the official pricing for Windows 7, and beginning today users can pre-order the operating system from Amazon. Those choosing to pre-order can expect to receive their copy of Windows 7 when it is officially released on October 22, 2009, that is if you choose “release-date delivery” at checkout.
Otherwise, as we learned yesterday, the pricing will range from $49.99 up to $219.99 for upgrade versions and from $199.99 up to $319.99 for the full (non-upgrade) versions.
Strangely though, they are limiting sales of the Home Premium Upgrade and Professional Upgrade versions to three per customer. Of course, both of those versions are listed as being on-sale and are offering savings of $70 and $100 respectively.
I guess those willing to commit, and those who cannot wait can go ahead and place an order. Personally, I do plan on grabbing a copy of Windows 7, but not really feeling the need to pre-order just to get “release-date delivery.”

RelatedRumor: Nokia to begin using Intel, new mobile device to be announced

Unfortunately the details are still pretty light on this one, however according to Bloomberg, Anand Chandrasekher of Intel will be announcing that Nokia is going to begin using Intel chips.
This news is expected to come later today during a conference call. But in addition to announcing that Nokia will be using Intel chips, there is also the expectation that there will be a new device announced.
So far, some are speculating that it will be something along the lines of a mobile device. Which could be quite a few things including a mobile Internet device (MID) or even a netbook. Time will tell, but this could lead to an exciting announcement for Nokia.
