The new EQ5 portable wireless speaker from Motorola promises sound with a wallop despite the fact that it is so small that it fits within the palm of your hands! It doubles as a speakerphone when paired with a phone, and features echo-cancellation and noise-reduction for clear communication. The integration of controls permits the system to automatically pause to take phone calls; you don’t have to stop the music yourself.
Motorola boasts that it is a global communications leader, a company whose artists and scientists are revolutionizing broadband, embedded systems and wireless networks. They are known for their introduction of cutting-edge technologies that are stylish as well. The EQ5 portable wireless speaker stands up to Motorola’s claim, although will not be available until spring of this year. Some of its other neat specs will include: play time up to 8 hours, a rechargeable, non-replaceable battery, Bluetooth availability, speakerphone and controls for hands-free functionality, bass ports for improved sound and a 3.5mm jack to connect to non-Bluetooth enabled music-players.

Samsung’s Purple Gleam: Royal customization
Verizon Wireless is now the proud carrier of the new purple Samsung Gleam! This new phone is more than just a new color scheme. It has a living wallpaper capability, which allows Verizon Wireless users to view the phone’s status with either an urban or a country view that changes with the time of day. It also features popular multimedia and messaging features including, V Cast Music and Video, Instant Messaging using AIM, MSN and Yahoo and text, picture and video messaging. These are the same features offered on the popular, original bronze Samsung Gleam, which may have proved to be too neutral for the more colorful among us.
The Purple Gleam also has limited Bluetooth technology for certain profiles as well as headset, hands-free, serial port stereo support for music and certain dial-up networking profiles. Some of the Purple Gleam’s other specs include a bilingual interface (English and Spanish) and a personal organizer with calendar, calculator, alarm clock and stopwatch.
The purple Samsung Gleam just launched a few days ago and it sells for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a two-year service agreement.

Looking more like a fashion accessory than a cell phone, when flipped open, the ‘S’ shaped, gold-colored metal hinge renders an extra little dash of dazzle. It probably should have stopped there (all this dazzle), but it didn’t. For a bit more splendor, the camera on the cover is also glittered.
Sony Ericsson gets new brand female ambassador
Maria Sharapova bears the distinction of having become Sony Ericsson’s very first global brand ambassador. She will retain the title exclusively for four years, and the soon-to-be 21 year old will be working closely with the company’s design team on a range of products and accessories. She will also undertake consumer brand campaigns designed to attract core target audiences.
The out-of-court agreement complements Sony Ericsson’s 6-year $88 million global title sponsorship of the Women’s Tennis Association Tour which was signed in January 2005. According to Dee Dutta, Corporate Vice President and Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson:

Japan to fly origami plane from outer space
The International Space Flight Center and researchers from the University of Tokyo have teamed up with members of the Japan Origami Airplane Association to develop a paper aircraft capable of surviving the flight from its base to the surface of the earth. Yes, you heard and read the news correctly, and the prototype will be 8 centimeters (3.1 in) long and weigh about 30 grams. Researchers began testing the strength and heat resistance a few days ago in an ultra-high-speed wind tunnel at the University of Tokyo’s Okashiwa campus.
