Optimus Tactus; the key-free keyboard
![]()
Art Lebedev’s concept design of an OLED screened keyboard can be simply described as jaw-dropping. There are no keys, instead a completely customizable, touchscreen surface. You can choose links to programs for quick-access, and judging by the pictures you can run video on it as well.
What makes this a great design is it’s multi-lingual compatibility. Different languages could simply be reprogrammed into the keyboard, meaning this Optimus Tactus could make it all round the world. Its a refreshing change to the keyboard design and the greatest upside I can see is that no food crumbs will ever get stuck in between the keys. It is still a concept, but we eagerly await the release date.

Another hot new gaming PC has turned up a CeBIT, this time its the Asus ARES CG6150, and while a current press release has been made, the stunning looking piece of machinery is sure to have hearts racing. It promises to bring a hardcore gaming experience from a case that looks like a cross between the Starship Enterprise and red lights like the car from Knightrider. Wow!
If you opened it up, you would find a Core 2 Extreme processor, up to 8GB of RAM and up to a massive 4TB of hard drive space. This thing has better air cooling than my car and will probably use more power than my house!

Got the Eee PC? The accessories? Put your name down for the 9 inch version? Well then you may need the newly announced M536 smartphone. Recently shown at CeBIT, the M536 is a flashy device with a 2.4-inch screen that features Wi-Fi, GPS and HSDPA, so you can send data at an adequate speed (although if you live in Britain you may face some crippling phone bills).
Under the bonnet, it runs Windows Mobile 6.1 and has 256MB of internal memory. Alas, the large shape of the handheld may be a bit cumbersome for some. We’ll just have to wait and see. The M536 will most likely by staying over in Europe and not be landing in the US anytime soon, and as of now there has not been mention of pricing.

Getac’s PS535E Windows Mobile handheld with built-in GPS
![]()
Getac has released their latest handheld, the PS535E, a Pocket PC that runs Windows Mobile 5.0 Premium. Some may be critical of the design, but it is a rugged product so what can you really expect. It has passed FCC testing, which means it is suitable for military and industrial use. It is very rugged having passed the MIL-STD 810F and IP54 tests and should survive the knocks and drops of any office, let alone out in the field.
The PS535E features include a 400MHz processor, Wi-Fi, GPS, 2GB flash storage, a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen and it also comes with the Windows Mobile Office software. The powerful battery, speaker/microphone and mini USB port are small things which will make usage a little easier.

TomTom’s new GO range revealed
![]()
During CeBIT 2008, TomTom officials have announced a new range of TomTom GPS systems. The GO 930 and 730 models have several updates and new features over their predecessors the 920 and 720. They each contain something called ‘IQ Routes’ technology, which finds out the average speed of certain roads, rather than the speed limit, so it can calculate whether the shortest route is actually the quickest, thus saving time and fuel.
The end is here for Netscape Navigator
![]()
I, just like many others of you, may remember back to the day when Netscape Navigator was the easiest and most simple way to surf the net. This was before Mozilla or Safari or even the humble IE were used by the masses. The ‘internet’ experience would have been: fire up the modem, listen to the screeching as it connects, then click on the familiar Netscape icon.
Of course, these are also the days when Netscape dominated 90% of browser use. Recently, it has plummeted to 0.6%. AOL bought over the company that started in the mid-90s, but now the company have stated that there will be no support for their products as of March 1st 2008 and instead are suggested current Netscape users make the move over to Firefox or Flock. Thanks for the good times, Netscape!
