Details on iPhone Apps

by JG Mason on Jun 11, 2007 at 11:07 PM

iphone wwdc imageJobs cleared some things up for us today at the WWDC.  We shouldn’t fret our minds about 3rd party applications; they will be there, just in the non-app form of Ajax scripts.  What?

Yes, the iPhone will be open (closed) to 3rd party applications through the Safari web browser.  You can run things like Salesforce.com or Gmail.  Great applications that don’t reside locally.  You really don’t want to muck up your local files with God-knows-what, do you?

This isn’t really the selling point I was hoping to learn about today.  Though we did get a time on the 29th: 6pm.

WWDC Rumor: Could this be today’s Keynote play by play?

by Robert Nelson on Jun 11, 2007 at 05:45 PM

WWDC 2007

While we all sit around anxiously awaiting the news that will come from today’s WWDC it seems we have time for just a little more speculation on what Steve Jobs will be discussing today. DailyTechTalk.com has posted what they are believing to be bullet points for todays Keynote.

In a last minute find, I happened across a German site that has an outline of tomorrow’s play by play of Steve Jobs’ WWDC keynote. The text has some issues when I performed the translation but I’ve copied it in the “Full Story” section and made some changes to make it easier to read. Of course, you can always translate it yourself…

Just to hit a few of the hot topics from “today’s keynote”.

  • New Generation for the iMac’s with a new design that would be more appealing to the iPhone.

  • Lot of new items for Leopard. ZFS File System, Front Row 2.0, Photobooth 2.0, New Spotlight, Mail, iCal to name a few.

  • Out with the brushed metal design and in with black shining Elemen.

  • .mac & Google, iLife & iWork ‘07

  • More iPhone details.

It seems pretty accurate to me, of course I am not sure if it sounds right because I would like it to go like that or I actually think it will go like that, only time will tell.

Don’t forget to check out the WWDC Live Coverage over at Appletell.

New iMacs to sport brushed metal exterior?

by Darrick Rochili on Jun 5, 2007 at 06:30 PM

iMacWhen the newest generation iPod Nano’s were released in brushed metal form, I was silently disappointed. Not at the Nano’s off course because they looked awesome, but at Apple’s timing of it, since I just received a black, previous generation Nano (the non brushed metal version) as a gift a week or two before they hit the market.

If you’re planning on getting an iMac anytime soon, you might want to wait a bit to avoid what happened to me. There are rumors that a re-designed iMac might soon surface, implementing the Santa Rosa chipset, with sizes ranging from 20” (the 17” version will be cut off) to ones larger than 24”, with a brushed metal exterior case to boot.

The new iMacs are said to be similarly priced to the current lineup and will be revealed after Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference. Of course these are just rumors at this moment, and if you can wait until after WWDC to see if these are indeed true, then I’d suggest some patience.

Steve Jobs to give WWDC Keynote

by Robert Nelson on May 2, 2007 at 05:30 PM

Apple LogoApple has announced that Steve Jobs will kick off this years Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), set to begin with his keynote at 10am on June 11th.

The five-day event, scheduled to run from June 11 to June 15, will deliver more than 150 sessions and labs aimed at getting the most out of Leopard. The conference will also include new content to serve a wide range of developers, including Mac OS X Immersion Monday, designed to quickly get developers who are new to the Mac® up to speed; a content and media track that shows developers the best ways to integrate animation, motion graphics, video, rich-media and web-based content into their applications; and dozens of hands-on labs that offer a unique opportunity to work directly with Apple engineers.

WWDC will show developers a full featured version of Leopard and also give them a beta copy for testing. Hopefully Leopard will not see any more delays and be available in October.

Of course what we really care about is whether they will release the iPhone that has already been “confirmed” by Cingular.

Gadgetell Undercover Releases Job’s Keynote Agenda

by JG Mason on Apr 18, 2007 at 04:46 PM

WWDC Keynote AgendaIn a world exclusive, Gadgetell has uncovered what Steve Jobs plan to speak about at Junes WWDC.  Yesterday it was announced an unprecedented 3 hours of time has been blocked off for Steve.

In the photo obtained by Gadgetell, clearly some time is for the iPhone, but the bulk of time will be spent admiring just how nice TV shows, specifically The Office look on the iPhone screen.  Jobs will show us 3 episodes in all.

Ok, so we’ve got no idea what will take 3 hours to cover, or even if Jobs has the fortitude to amaze us for that long a time span.  Our money is on The Office, as he clearly favored it in the iPhone unveiling.  That, or more family vacation photos.

What do you think?

Update: We now know it was a typo and Jobs does not in fact have the fotitude to amaze us for that long of time.  What a let-down.

Leopard release in June?

by Michael Yurechko on Apr 3, 2007 at 05:14 AM

Leopard EyeApple is currently planning a Leopard release in June, which seems about right as it will probably be during or around the Worldwide Developers Conference, reliable sources are reporting. June 21 marks the end of spring, which suggests Apple will meet it’s original Q2 shipping estimate. According to Think Secret’s sources, we should be in for more than expected.

“Leopard is shaping up to be a more significant release than anyone expected, with much more to come than any of the developer builds have led on,” one source said.

Also scheduled for June is the updated version of Apple’s iLife and iWork suites, which are said to include many new, Leopard-dependant, features. One source reported Apple will be dropping the “07” or similar, from the ending of it’s software suites and possibly going with “Leopard edition” or something along those lines.

For all the Office users out there, Microsoft is expected to release it’s next version of Office for Mac (is to be released in the second-half of 2007). I don’t know how well this will go over as the new version of the iWork suite is said to be made to directly compete with Office, especially with the rumors of the inclusion of a new spreadsheet app. One thing is certain out of all this skepticism, Leopard’s unreleased functionality is guaranteed to awe us.
