Olympus unveils the E-520 DSLR

by Arnold Zafra on May 13, 2008 at 07:49 AM

Olympus E-520 DSLR

All of a sudden and without too much hype and buzz, Olympus has announced the new E-520 DSLR, a follow-up to its E-510 Evolt model which was released back in 2007. Perhaps the reason for the lack of pre-launch hype is the fact the E-520 doesn’t offer too much improvements over its predecessor. You’ll get practically the same look and feel except for a few changes.

Being a predecessor to an already powerful DSLR, the E-520 has the same 10-megapixel resolution that is capable of burst shooting at 3.5fps, a live view mode, CF or xD-Picture card for photo storage, and more.

Panasonic Lumix TZ50

Panasonic has launched the Lumix TZ50 digital camera in the US market, and as speculated when it was released in Japan last month, the camera will support direct photo uploads to Google’s Picasa web albums. Taiwanese Altek combines digital camera, GPS

by Natesh Sood on Apr 19, 2008 at 10:43 AM

Altek GPS and Digital Camera

Usually, GPS units aren’t seen incorporated in many other devices, except maybe as a PMP, however, Altek, has created a digital camera that also comes with GPS. Sometimes, there are GPS units that come with a mediocre digital camera, but this one features a digital camera that is pretty nice.

The digital camera is an 8-megapixel model, and sports a 3-inch touch screen for the GPS part. Basically, using its Geotate software, you can input the exact coordinates and the time of the picture and it can spit back a GPS map. The cool thing here is that it can even provide maps to the place that you took the picture. I’m not exactly sure how this works, but it does seem like a pretty cool piece of technology. No word on exact pricing, but it should be available in the second half of this year in Beijing, probably in time for the Summer Olympics.

Gadgetell review: Casio’s Slimmist Camera: EX-S10, 10.1mp hottie

by JG Mason on Apr 15, 2008 at 10:55 AM

Product: Casio Exilim EX-S10
Price and Availability: $249.99
Pros: Super slim, big 10.1mp, liked Best Shot over time, simple video recording
Cons: Does anyone really need 10.1?  Some motion blur
Overall: I am considering this for my personal camera.  I love the form factor, the Best Shot works for me, one touch recording is key.
Rating: 10/10

In short, I love this camera.  I take a range of photos for work and for play.  From simple studio shots where I putz around with lighting to lacrosse action photos, having a camera I can whip out anywhere is critical for me.  I hate bulky cameras, mostly cause I refuse to carry them.  If this sounds like you, you are going to love the S10.
