Droid price drops to $120 in some places, selling well

by Josh Holat on Nov 22, 2009 at 03:45 PM

So you want a new iPhone 3GS? That’ll cost you $199 plus a two year contract with AT&T that can easily cost $90+ a month for one person. But what if you want a Motorola Droid? While that will cost you $200 with a two year contract at Verizon, this isn’t your only option. Dell is selling the Droid for a slim $119.99 price tag with a service contract.

AT&T creates Verizon attack ad. Could this get any better?

by Josh Holat on Nov 20, 2009 at 09:49 AM

Just a couple days ago, as Verizon responded to AT&T’s lawsuit about their 3G coverage maps, it appeared as if AT&T had nowhere to go. But as you can see in the ad after the jump, AT&T isn’t going to give up on this one. It may be true that Verizon has the most expansive 3G network, but AT&T is now claiming they have the fastest 3G network, allow you to talk and surf at the same time, carry the most popular smartphones, and have over 100,000 apps available.

Appletell reviews Sonos ZonePlayer S5 with ZoneBridge wireless music system

by Josh Holat on Nov 19, 2009 at 07:32 AM

A nice addition to Sonos’ lineup of speakers and audio streaming devices, the ZonePlayer S5 wireless music system comes in a simple, one unit form factor that can be controlled through a free iPhone application. This device is meant to simply be placed in a room, quickly set up, and then used to stream the user’s audio from its source to that room (or rooms). The best part? That’s exactly what it does.

Google plans to release their own phone

by Josh Holat on Nov 18, 2009 at 10:59 PM

Recent reports are informing us that the Google Phone is no longer a rumor, and will in fact be released within a reasonable amount of time. The initial plan was to release the phone by the holiday season of this year, but we can now expect to see it early in 2010. While there has recently been an influx of Android phones making their way to the market, this one will actually be branded by Google, and I think it’ll be what we’ve been waiting for with Android.

Microsoft Store proves yet again their power to imitate; and rather embarrassingly.

by Josh Holat on Nov 18, 2009 at 03:18 PM

Not only did Microsoft feel they had to go and copy Apple for their stores themselves, they also felt the need to take a page out of the book of Improv Everywhere. If the colorful shirts, store layout, and concepts involved in their retail store (i.e. Genius Bar type help desks) weren’t enough to show Microsoft’s ability to copy, the randomly clapping and dancing proves this. Enjoy the video.

Appletell reviews Shortcovers eBook reader for iPhone, iPod Touch

by Josh Holat on Nov 18, 2009 at 12:07 PM

I’ll admit I hadn’t heard of Shortcovers until just recently. However, after visiting their website, it quickly became apparent that they have a great selection of eBooks available in their store, and numerous ways to consume that media, as well. In fact, buying a book through this store allows you to read it on your iPhone, Blackberry, Palm Pre, Android device, or even your Mac or PC’s web browser. I would almost describe it as the Audible of eBooks.

Verizon fires back at AT&T claiming the truth hurts

by Josh Holat on Nov 18, 2009 at 07:00 AM

It wasn’t long ago that AT&T filed a lawsuit against Verizon claiming that their “There’s a map for that” advertisements were both untrue and hurtful in a tremendous amount to their company. That didn’t stop Verizon from publishing more ads shortly thereafter. Now, via an official response for Verizon, we may understand why.

It’s no surprise Apple considered purchasing AdMob

by Josh Holat on Nov 17, 2009 at 06:56 AM

A new report out of Bloomberg is stating Apple may have been in in negotiations with AdMob about purchasing their company weeks before Google acquired them for $750 million. A purchase of AdMob—which makes their money in the mobile advertisement business—by Apple would have furthered the competition currently going on with Google, a company dominating search advertisements.
