Black Friday 2009: Apple announces a special one-day shopping event

by Ed Parry on Nov 23, 2009 at 01:01 PM

According to Apple’s website, this Friday will see some great discounts and deals on the range of Apple products available. What’s more, every purchase made this Friday (commonly known as Black Friday), will have free shipping, whatever the total price comes to. There’s no official information on the exact deals and offers that will be available on Friday, but if a leaked image from last week is anything to go by, we could be seeing some decent savings coming our way.

Christmas comes to the online Apple Store

by Ed Parry on Nov 8, 2009 at 05:10 PM

This morning, the online Apple store went offline for a short time. When it came back, there signs the Christmas elves had been speaking to Mr. Jobs about gift options. If you’ve thought about buying gifts from Apple this festive season, you’ll be happy to hear of the elegant gift wrapping options, Christmas-styled gift cards and, of course, the personalization options available for several Apple products.

Appletell reviews three accidentally educational games for iPhone, iPod touch

by Ed Parry on Nov 7, 2009 at 12:20 PM

In this review, we look at three educational iPhone applications; Polynx, QuizQuizQuiz and Whirly Word. Each one is slightly different, but each one is, in its own right, a great title to play. Whether you’re looking to extend your general knowledge, language vocabulary or to test your basic arithmetic ability, there’s certainly, as Apple themselves would say, “an app for that.”

Fortune Magazine names Steve Jobs “CEO of the Decade”

by Ed Parry on Nov 5, 2009 at 12:43 PM

In ten years, Apple has gone from a relatively small computer company—with no Apple Stores, iPod, iTunes, Mac OS X or iPhone—to being a technology leader with a range of great products, while being the most valuable company in Silicon Valley. I think, looking back, it’s no wonder Steve Jobs is Fortune’s “CEO of the Decade.”

Apple updates the iMac

by Ed Parry on Oct 20, 2009 at 05:05 PM

Along with several other updates, Apple gave some lovin’ to the all-in-one machine: the iMac. I believe it’s safe to say these updates have seriously improved the iMac. A few days ago, for serious computing, your best bet was probably the Mac Pro. Now, with up to 16GB of RAM and a 2TB hard drive, the iMac is not to be laughed at. And with a 27-inch widescreen beyond HD display, everything will look amazing.

Apple Online Store goes down - are the rumors true?

by Ed Parry on Oct 20, 2009 at 09:22 AM

It seems that John Gruber could, in fact, be correct with his ideas that Apple will release new iMacs, MacBooks (the white plastic model), Mac Minis, and of course a new Mighty Mouse. Almost as though he knew something, the Apple store has indeed gone down this morning, which leads to either maintenance (yeah, right) or the possibility of new toys from Apple.

In-app purchases now available in free apps

by Ed Parry on Oct 16, 2009 at 07:33 AM

When iPhone OS 3.0 was first released, Apple stated that only paid apps would be able to take advantage of in-app purchases. This allowed developers to offer, say, the first 10 levels of a game, then to charge a little extra for additional levels. Now, free applications will be able to offer upgrades via in-app purchases, which will hopefully clear the App Store of the hundreds of lite titles of which I am personally not a fan.

First look: Tweetie 2 for iPhone

by Ed Parry on Oct 10, 2009 at 09:51 AM

Atebits have aimed to keep the interface looking like an Apple iPhone app should look, but ensuring that as many features as possible are included, without over-facing the app itself. I think they’ve done a great job in that respect. With so many new features and a great user interface, I would certainly recommend Tweetie 2 to any iPhone Twitter user.

iPhone OS 3.1.2 available now

by Ed Parry on Oct 8, 2009 at 02:54 PM

The latest firmware update for the iPhone and iPod touch has today been released from Apple. There are no new features here, just a few bug fixes to keep your iPhone or iPod touch on top form. The update should fix small issues regarding cellular service, video playback and a reported problem where the iPhone does not wake from sleep mode.

Two billion downloads for the App Store

by Ed Parry on Oct 3, 2009 at 09:49 AM

In case you missed it, Apple’s App Store reached two billion downloads this week, a little after a year since the store first launched for the iPhone and iPod touch. April saw the first billion apps downloaded, with just over half a billion downloaded in the last quarter. There are certainly no signs of things slowing down just yet.
