Apple releases iPhone Beta 4 build 7A300g

by Anthony Parkinson on Apr 29, 2009 at 10:02 PM

iPhone beta 4 is yet again faster than the previous version of the Beta. Many bugs where fixed in this release, such as the redial button disappearing after you terminate a call. This is a nice fix, as I do a lot of redialing for work related issues. Not much else has changed. Still no MMS. Still no tethering. Everything else is still functional and more things work correctly. No crashes so far since I have been using it for about 24 hours.

iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3 Build: 7A280f released

by Anthony Parkinson on Apr 14, 2009 at 09:38 PM

I have had the pleasure—yes, I mean pleasure—of working with the beta 3 release of OS 3.0 for the iPhone. I flashed my phone with the firmware about four hours ago, and it is just flat out fast. Finger gestures, taps, application response are all faster than any of the OS 2 builds. I am excited for everyone because they seem to be releasing a new build about every two weeks or so, so I can only image how fast this is going to be when released to the masses.

What is next for the iPhone/Apple?

by Anthony Parkinson on Apr 8, 2009 at 06:02 AM

We have MMS, we have copy and paste, we have landscape mode. What is next? I have a few ideas, and of course there are plenty of rumors floating around. Let’s take a moment to go over some of the possibilities of video, office apps and a netbook.

iPhone 3.0 Beta 2 still broken…sort of

by Anthony Parkinson on Apr 6, 2009 at 06:45 PM

I have been working with the 3.0 software for the iPhone for a few days now, and I really wish they would fix it. I have actually lost some functionality, along with gaining all of the new features. Before I upgraded, when I got either a MobileMe or an Exchange e-mail, the phone would venerably “ding” with a short vibration. I loved it and used it many times a day. It is broken with 3.0.

iPhone OS 3.0 beta 2 build 7A259 released

by Anthony Parkinson on Mar 31, 2009 at 09:09 PM

The new iPhone 3.0 build opens up push notifications to developers in the SDK, allowing them to write code for in-game purchases, and obviously push notifications. Apple has also reportedly fixed several bugs and made the OS more stable, allowing it to run just that much faster. With my short term experience with it, it is actually a usable beta now. My iPhone has not crashed in the three hours I have been running the 7A259 build.

Hands On: iPhone 3.0 beta

by Anthony Parkinson on Mar 25, 2009 at 09:33 PM

We all know that Betas are buggy. We all know that Betas crash. This one is no different. If you put that aside, then I have to say that 3.0 is pretty sweet. A lot of new features, and most of them are nicely designed and very functional.

Are we expecting too much from Apple?

by Anthony Parkinson on Mar 9, 2009 at 11:14 AM

I love to follow the rumors and guess at product lines from Apple just as much as anyone. I am proclaiming my fanboyism. I think I just made up a word. A bad one at that. Anyway I think that we have come to expect to much from our beloved folks at 1 Infinite Way out in Cupertino. They have absolutely destroyed the competitive companies on so many platforms that we come to expect it from every product that comes from Ives & Co.

Appletell reviews Empower Your Parenting for iPhone, iPod touch

by Anthony Parkinson on Mar 5, 2009 at 08:36 PM

There are not a lot of physical pieces to this application. What it does is give you advice to help you raise your children to be “socially acceptable.” Now, I know my kids did not come with a manual. I would venture to guess yours did not either. Some pieces of being a parent are “hard coded” in us humans, though. I would not send my 3-year-old son to pre-school in a dress. I would not let my 12-year-old daughter go to the mall unaccompanied. I like to refer to these things as common sense. Sometimes, though, we do need a little help. Sometimes, we can use a new idea of which maybe we have not thought.

Appletell reviews Torqued for iPhone, iPod touch

by Anthony Parkinson on Mar 2, 2009 at 08:59 AM

If you like to race and have an iPhone or an iPod touch, I definitely recommend this application…although my first impression of the application was actually pretty bad. Let me explain. There are a wide variety of vehicles pre-loaded with the application. If your vehicle is not in the list, you would need to be an engineer on a Nascar Sprint Cup team to get all the data you need.

Safari for Windows, not so good

by Anthony Parkinson on Feb 16, 2009 at 06:31 AM

I have been using Safari for Windows at work since it was released in 2007. I have tried to be patient with it, because I know Apple, except for iTunes, is not in the business of making applications for Windows. With the most recent release 3.2.1 in November of last year, I have not seen much improvement from the first version.
