Apple patents pen-based tablet input
In the past, Apple had not been fond of stylus or pen-based input, but it seems that ignorance of the pen is nowhere to be found when it comes to tablets. This July, Apple filed a patent for pen-based input for tablets involving what they call “ink phrases.” The patent details a different approach to handwriting recognition; instead of breaking down individual strokes, it attempts to recognize entire phrases.

Navigon announces Traffic Live for MobileNavigator North America
The best GPS app on iPhone just got a little bit better. Navigon’s MobileNavigator is already an amazing GPS routing app with its voice prompted directions, smoothly animated maps and excellent everything-I-can-think-of, but Today they’ve added Traffic Live for North America.
Appletell reviews iStoragePro’s Pocket HDD
iStoragePro’s Pocket hard drives replicate the look and feel of the G-Technology line of Mac inspired portable hard drives, but are they as good? Both look like they belong with a Mac. Both are bus powered over USB 2.0 or FireWire and include all possible cables (USB, FireWire 400 and 800). Both are well made and attractive. The designs are different, but the only obvious, external difference is the brand name. And honestly, on the inside, they are pretty similar too.
Free Apps roundup for November 6th, 2009
Another great week for freebies on the App Store. Lots of information, apps and games, which is good news if your weekend was going to be bland. Now it can be full of icons instead! Cameras, toys, religion, games, and Family Guy. You couldn’t ask for too much more.
8GB iPhone 3G soon to gain an S?
Currently, Apple’s most affordable model of iPhone is the 8GB iPhone 3G, also known as “last year’s model.” But that could change soon. Unconfirmed tipsalong with a few, not so blurry, picsseem to confirm that Rogers in Canada is draining their 8GB iPhone 3G stock to make way for the new 8GB iPhone 3GS. I think it’s fair to assume this rumor would apply to AT&T and elsewhere too.
Is RFID the next feature for iPhone 4?
Apple could already be testing next generation iPhones equipped with RFID (radio frequency identification) capabilities if a less than rock solid rumor is to be trusted (as if rumors could be solid in the first place). What exactly would you do with RFID in your iPhone? A host of things actually, but the most useful for regular users would likely be how it could simplify device discovery and syncing.
Appletell reviews the NZXT CRYO S Notebook Cooler
The CRYO S notebook cooler/stand is made out of one super thick (3mm) piece of aluminum. It has a nice brush-black aluminum finish with some slots cut out, some grill work, and some rubber details to keep your notebook in place. Underneath the slab of metal are two 120mm fans. These are powered by either USB or an AC adapter. On the back are the dial for fan speed and a two port USB hub. The CRYO S will easily hold any notebook up to 15 inches.
