Gmail recently started offering IMAP support and it looks more improvements will be coming soon. At the recent Google Analyst Day they revealed some of the details that we may see in the next version. New features include:

  • Message Prefetching; This will allow for quicker message reading. A new JavaScript architecture will allow Gmail to fetch messages in advance that way they will be there instantly when you load them.
  • New Contact Manager; The new contact manager will add integration with other Google apps such as Docs and Calendar.
  • Integrating Features from other Google products.
