The upcoming Live Free or Die Hard DVD will include a surprising extra, 20th century fox is expected to release a special-edition of the DVD with an electronic download included that can be played on a Windows computer with PlaysForSure or a select portable video player to include Archos, Toshiba, Samsung, RCA, Dell or Creative Labs.

Live Free or Die Hard will be released on November 20th. In addition to Live Free or Die Hard, the upcoming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is also expected to allow DVD buyers to download a copy of the movie. In addition to these two titles Fox also has plans to include this feature on some releases in the future, however Fox has yet to announce any specific titles.

The digital copy can be accessed by inserting Disc 2 into your computer where a menu will give you the option to download, users will have to enter a 16-digit serial code that will be found inside the DVD case. While this still needs some more support for Mac and iPod users it certainly is a nice start to give consumers what they are looking for...the ability to watch their purchased movie on a variety of players without having to buy multiple copies.
