Reviewed by me: ProClips perfect Gadget holder

by JG Mason on Aug 14, 2007 at 05:39 PM

proclip gadget holderIn reviewing GPS gear you notice something real quick: how do you hold all this stuff?  I’ve found the suction cup mounts to be problematic, good for rentals, bad for long term.  They take up a lot of real estate and bounce around like wheels on a bus.

The best solution I could find is ProClips.  This company insanely makes custom plastic parts to fit into the molding of your car.  Yes, each individual car not a one-size-fits-some.  Then they add a custom fit solution for your gadget. Every time Honda makes an interior change or Blackberry changes the curves, they have to create new parts.  Bad for them, unbelievably fantastic for you.

The Custom Car Part

For your vehicle, ProClips designs a mounting clip that fits into the molding of your car, a small gap is all they need and even provide you with a tool to wedge the molding apart to insert the clip.  On my Ford, this was so simple, I was done in less than a minute.  The result is a perfectly positioned clip on which to attach, well, almost any gadget you can think of.

The Custom Gadget Part

Of equal importance to how well ProClips fits your car is how well it holds your precious gadgets.  My Blackjack is held extremely securely, with or without the super-duper battery (an insert provided with the mount) without scratching despite no padding.  It is designed that well.  I went with the swivel mount as I think it is necessary to get optimal viewing angle from these little screens.  ProClips will fit the popular gadgets (phones, mP3 players, UMPC, PDA, GPS and more) as well as the not-so-popular ones like the Mio 701, ProClips has 3 different holding options.  Nice.

The Bottom Line

Having my phone not in the cup holder but up on the dash makes it easer and safer for me while driving.  No longer am I diving to find who is calling or looking down to dial (not that I admit publicly to doing so).  There is no bouncing what so ever so GPS on the phone is crystal clear.  The swivel is great, I can easily turn the device to see clearly no matter which seat I am in.  The price is a bit high, but for a custom fit, it is worth every penny.  After installing and using the ProClip for just a day I set out to buy one for my wife’s car.  You won’t find a better recommendation than that.

ProClip Device Holder: approx $34

ProClip Car Mount: approx $29

My overall rating: 10/10

I love proclip mounts, I have been using them for over a year and they are simply incredible. I found a coupon code while searching the internet for 10% off, here it is, so you all dont have to pay retail :) when checking out, type 521047 into the “AC number” field

In my opinion the ProClip solutions are simply the best available on the market. They are so simple to install and that alone is a huge savings as it cuts the expensive installation out of the picture. I switched phones and only had to change the device holder that fits perfect to my phone. But the thing I like most is the quality - it is rock solid. If you are looking for a great solution for your phone in your car, get one. For what it is worth - you can get a refund on your ProClip purchase when you use ID# 10800N at Encoura.com - I always like passing on a good deal when one is available.

We agree with the comments made by D Dawson - ProClip solutions are a fantastic product. Yet a refund will not be issues when using the ID# listed at the location mentioned. We hope to keep this review in order as a review and not an advertisement. Please accept our recommendations to ProClip as an outstanding product and our apologies if a posting from one of our agents was a little zealous.

    Sincerely

    The Encoura Team

  • I can put my blackberry in there when Im using the gps

  • The kit is probably very useful, but the design part needs to be redone or customized by client needs because it seem very inestetic.

I ordered a set for my Honda Ridgeline and my iPod Touch.  Wanted one for the iPhone 3G, but they said I had to wait.  2 or 3 months later, when they came out with the 3G, I tried to order using the discount code they gave me when I ordered the first set.  Turns out it had just expired (there was no information in the documentation saying it would expired, much less that it would in just a couple months.)  When I called the company I got strong attitude and was basically told “tuff!“  Since then the bracket on the original, that mounts to the air vent, is starting to not stay put, one side keeps coming off.  For the high price, I expected better communication and consistency.
