Nokia announces a recall of 46 million batteries

nokia battery recall

Nokia has announced a product advisory for the Nokia branded BL-5C battery. The battery was made by Matsushita Battery Industrial Co. Ltd. of Japan between December 2005 through November 2006. It could potentially cause overheating due to a short circuit while charging that will cause the battery to dislodge.

Nokia estimates that more than 300 million of the BL-5C batteries have been made from various suppliers, however the recall applies “only to the 46 million” batteries made by Matsushita. So far there have been about 100 reports worldwide of the battery actually overheating.  I suppose 100 out of 46 million is not that bad, but if you have this battery you can request a replacement from Nokia. You can head over to www.nokia.com/batteryreplacement to check your battery identification number.
