New PMP is 0.02” thinner than the Nano

by Natesh Sood on Aug 23, 2007 at 03:37 AM

TOM-019

Apple’s iPod Nano used to be the thinnest device on the street but Topway’s TOM-019 (company based in Hong Kong) is the new guy on the street. This very thin player measures out at 6mm or 0.24” compared to the Nano’s 0.26”.

With a thin player like this, you wouldn’t think it would support video playback, but like most new PMP’s today, it does. It supports a variety of formats including MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG2.5 and MPEG4 , and for music, MP3, WAV and WMA, all on its 1.8” screen. Additionally, it supports BMP, JPG and GIF for photos, even TXT, and features zooming. Finally, it allows audio recording in MP3 format, comes with an address book and an FM radio. The TOM-019 comes in a few models with storage ranging from a meager 120 MB to 2 GB.

No word on pricing or availability, but since its company is based in Hong Kong, don’t expect it to hit the States anytime soon.
