Skype to become mainstream, partnering with Wal-Mart

by Robert Nelson on May 14, 2007 at 06:41 PM

Skype LogoStarting today Wal-Mart will begin offering Skype Certified hardware in its stores. While Skype is one of the larger and better know VoIP providers they are still not as well know by some non-geeks out there. The move into Wal-Mart may change that a little bit. With more than 1,800 stores this will allow a lot more people to become familiar with Skype and what they have to offer. Wal-Mart is set to carry a variety headsets, webcams, handsets and also per-paid cards. The pre-paid cards will be exclusive to Wal-Mart and will be available in two options. You can choose from either a $20 card and also one for $8.85 that will give users three months of unlimited SkypeOut calls.
