ModBook gets boosted in preparation for launch

by Indraneel Purohit on May 28, 2007 at 11:07 AM

ModBook

Though it flew under the radar at MacWorld, the ModBook has gained its fair share of attention since. Other World Computing will convert (on a relatively small scale) Apple MacBooks into a keyboard-less notebook toting a touchscreen.

Expected to launch sometime this summer, OWC has decided to give the 2 models a decided bump, not too far after Apple’s upgrade of the MacBooks. The touchscreen’s sensitivity level has been doubled from 256 to 512, creeping it closer and closer to that of a WaCom Tablet. Additionally, the processor speed has been increased, with the lower end going to 2.0ghz and the higher end model getting a 2.16ghz chip. You can beef up your hard drive to a massive (notebook-wise) 500 gigabytes. If you wish to upset the balance of dual channel RAM, you can add a third gigabyte of memory.

The ModBook is sure to be great for graphic designers who want a mobile machine or for students who need to take notes in class. Available at prices of $2,279 and $2,579, the ModBook is set to ship towards the end of July.

The Modbook does not have a touch screen! It it, quite literally, a Wacom tablet sensor behind the screen. Please fix your article.

(You can verify this at axiotron’s website. search for wacom.)

OWC is delaying shipment again until July or August. This is the fourth time they do it without informing their customers… I’m thinking about cancelling.
