The cause of the great Blackberry outage

by Robert Nelson on Apr 21, 2007 at 12:54 AM

RIM LogoBlackberry has come forward with the reason behind the recent Blackberry outage that affected all North America users. I am sure we would all like to think that it was some great reason but it turns out it was far less exciting and much more annoying. The failure was cause by
“the introduction of a new, non-critical system routine” designed to increase the system’s e-mail holding space.

It turns out this was caused by an update that was non-critical. While I think it’s great they are actively trying to work on and improve the service you would think with such a large user base they would put a little more care into the updates. They did go on to admit” the pre-testing of the system routine proved to be insufficient”.

So hopefully in the future we can avoid these problems. We don’t want any of the Crackberry addicts to suffer any further.
