Headplay to demo their Personal Cinema System design

Headplay will unveil the final design of their Personal Cinema System at CES. The PCS is a portable visual headset and media center that can connect to various electronics - game systems, DVD players, MP3 players, computers, cell phones and various storage media - for viewing and recording, including exclusive “New Generation 3D” content which can even be viewed in stereoscopic 3D.
The PCS is comprised of three main components: the Viewer, the Liberator and the Navigator. The Viewer, proudly designed by she-she human factor design company IDEO, is a headset that simulates a 52 in. screen with resolution up to 1024x768, projecting identical images to both eyes via a single LCoS display. The Liberator is essentially the cable box with ports for composite, S-video and component cables as well as two USB ports and a Compact Flash slot. It runs the imaging software but doesn’t require any drivers. The last item, the Navigator, is a remote control that also acts as the headphone port. All the pieces, at least in the design images, are shiny and all black, with the remote looking like a single piece of rubber. The headset even looks like it may include a neck rest but it’s hard to tell from the images.
The PCS - and accessories - will be available April 2007 for $499 at headplay.com. It will also be available for private, hands-on demonstrations at CES (go get ‘em Adam and Doug!).

Thanks for the nice post!
on September 2, 2007 at 11:25 AM - LINKTHIS IS BIG! There are only three things I fear. One, that if it malfunctions my head will be damaged. Two, that it doesn’t do all that it promises (so they should do more conferences’ so people can try it). Lastly-three, that it will either do well and the price gets jacked up, or it will do badly and you will not find it.
